Why is There a Zombie in the Picture?

Social Butterfly Club Berlin

People love to point out that there’s a zombie in my Social Butterfly header image.

It’s not a mistake — it’s intentional. And here’s why.

The first reason is historical: I once ran a meetup series for “screen zombies” — people who spend so much time in front of screens they barely move or step outside. My goal was to lure them out into the park, even if it felt awkward or challenging.

But the zombie is more than just a screen addict. It could be someone shy or socially anxious. Someone with depression, autism, or who simply feels out of place. Someone who struggles to be around others.

In the Social Butterfly Club, nobody’s perfect — and that’s exactly the point. We all have our own battles. We all want to be seen, respected, and welcomed.

So if you spot a zombie — in the image or in real life — remember: every “zombie” is a unique human with a rich inner world.

And maybe, just maybe… sometimes you’re the zombie in the room.

So please be kind! Always.
